After completing my apprenticeship as a carpenter in 2019 and obtaining a vocational baccalaureate in art a year later, I decided to work 100% as a carpenter in the Swiss mountains in the canton of Valais. During this time, I hoped to trace and practice the woodworking process back to its origins whilst also redefining my personal meaning for wood work.
However, after a year, I realized that the traditional carpenter profession didn’t suit me in that way, as the production in a company is already so automated and/or planned that it mainly adapts to the economic situation and circumstances.
Therefore, I decided to pursue a different path and worked on independent projects from 2021 to 2024. I created my own comic, helped friends with carpentry projects, pursued more wood carving and handicrafts, and found peace with my skills as a carpenter by rebuilding the insides of an old farmhouse and a tiny house for my father.
With renewed courage, I then decided to make my long-desired dream come true:
to travel, gather knowledge outside of Switzerland, and try my luck as a self-employed carpenter. This led me in 2025 to the islands of Kamijima in Japan, where I currently live and am engaging with the community. My wishes and goals are to collect knowledge, experience new projects and adventures in Japan. I love collaborating with others on projects, realizing visions together and dreaming of new possibilities. With each new interaction and each small step, I discover new aspects of my craftsmanship, which allows me to invest in my independence as a maker.
Currently, I am involved in detailed renovations of an old Japanese house in Yuge, which is my main project, but I am open to new commissions in coordination with my current work. So, if you have a project—whether it’s the renovation of an old house, restoring old furniture, or creating a completely new piece of furniture—please feel free to contact me by email. I look forward to getting to know you and your ideas!"
